Nordic Innovation has commissioned Accenture and Silo AI to coordinate a project for mobilizing the Nordic ecosystem for ethical AI and responsible use of data.
This project aims at making the Nordics a leading region within digitalization, ethical AI and responsible use of data.
“We are pleased to launch our cooperation with Accenture and Silo AI, both leading actors in their respective field. As new tools like generative AI have the potential to bring about sweeping changes to the global economy, societies at large and every aspect of our life, it is essential we bring ethics to the center of development. The Nordic region has the potential to leverage the already strong foundation of equality, fairness, and trust. There are ways for the Nordics collectively to make a difference by setting up best practises, frameworks, and networks – elements which lie in the core of this project.”, says Svein Berg, Managing Director at Nordic Innovation.
“AI maturity is accelerating and generative AI applications such as ChatGPT are beginning to make their way through different industries. AI has the potential to create significant value for individuals, businesses, and society, if they embrace Responsible AI and AI regulation to become responsible by design, engender trust, and scale AI with confidence, which is at the core of Accenture’s business strategy,” says Vibeke Nyvold, Managing Director, Nordic Health & Public Services lead at Accenture.
“The development of responsible and ethical AI is imperative for the competitiveness and welfare of the Nordic region. To achieve this goal, we will need Nordic collaboration and a Nordic vision for ethical AI. Silo AI has always had a people-first approach to AI, creating sustainable value with new technologies where the ethical and responsible use of data is of central importance. Now that the whole world is discussing the ethical impacts of AI, we are happy to start this timely collaboration with Nordic Innovation and Accenture on building a Nordic Ethical AI ecosystem”, says Peter Sarlin, CEO at Silo AI.
The Project: The Nordic Ethical AI Ecosystem is part of a larger AI and Data program launched by the Nordic ministers of trade and industry in 2021 with Nordic Innovation as the responsible organization. The program represents a determined advance towards a stronger and more sustainable Nordic region and supports the Nordic Prime Ministers’ vision for the Nordic region to be the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030.
The project will run from April 2023 to June 2024, and will include the following initiatives:
Raise awareness of ethical AI and responsible data management practices in Nordic businesses and public authorities
Outline the factors driving the increased importance of ethical AI and advantages of Nordic companies adopting ethical AI practices
Create an industry-focused Ethical AI Sandbox, open for all Nordic companies seeking support with building capabilities to develop and adopt ethical AI, and take part in matchmaking with other ecosystem actors
Create and run a Nordic Ethical AI & Data Expert group and create a joint vision on ethical AI for the Nordic region
