Only politician comes from Finland.
"The most urgent of the AI recommendations is the assembly of an independent international scientific panel (IISCAI). The model is the IPCC, the international climate change panel. The 'Manhattan Declaration' outlines the panel's objectives," Member of Parliament Timo Harakka explains in the press release.
The declaration was made by 21 of the world's leading experts in AI research and regulation. The initiative has been signed by, among others, Rumman Chowdury, Francesca Rossi, and Jian Wang, as well as the chairs of the Secretary-General's advisory group, Carme Artigas and James Manyika.
"I am the only politician who has been accepted among the world's leading experts. I am honored by this recognition," Timo Harakka says in the press release.
The declaration outlines the ten commandments for the development of artificial intelligence that benefits and is safe for humanity. According to the declaration, global cooperation in AI is extremely important, and technology should be seen as a tool for achieving sustainable development goals.
Based on the declaration, as many different kinds of people as possible must be able to participate in AI research. In addition to expertise in machine learning and mathematics, research can benefit from, for example, social sciences, behavioral sciences, and cultural studies.
"It was easy to agree with the declaration's message, which encourages the responsible use of AI. Experts consider sensible regulation necessary for innovations that serve the public interest to succeed and for AI to benefit the whole world, not just the richest countries' wealthiest," Harakka states in the press release.
